Saturday, February 9th, The Pastel Society joined together with invited guests, the Farmland Preservation Artists of Central PA for their annual Winter Paint-In, held at the Harris Township Community Center in Boalsburg. It was a special day, where we we met new members and built new friendships. The energy was positive but very relaxing, giving opportunity to support each other with laughter and community of the common creative interests. We all had a chance to do and talk about what we love best, art and pastels! The consensus was, "We can't wait...

I thought it would be fun to share the first painting we do in 2019 with others in our group. So, it seemed reasonable to have the website slideshow be an exhibit of the FIRST PAINTING OF THE YEAR. Please do take part in this sharing activity and if you do, you could tie your first painting into the January Challenge Event that Stacy has set up for you. So you might as well sign up for that, too! Your painting can be any size, small or large, and any subject. Please send in your jpegs sometime during the first week of January to Anna...

This year a series of online adventures are being planned. Our hope is to have more member participation which will allow us to get to know each other better. Members can participate in as many adventures as they wish. Do try to participate in at least one or two during the year, especially those where we "talk" back and forth and share paintings, ideas, and opinions.

If you have any ideas that you think would be fun, informative, creative and/or challenging for the group, please send them to Jill Foster at .

Some ideas al...

24 MARCH 2018 (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM)

“Passion. Connected,” the motto of this year’s Winter Olympics lends inspiration to this year’s CPPS member-led workshop. We adopt this state of mind that champions a world in which everyone is connected with a shared passion; not as athletes, but as artists, with a shared passion for pastels. This winter, CPPS held a new class at the Art Alliance, called: A PASTEL PREMIERE. Three different teaching members presented: P...

About the Workshop

Instructor: Lisa Mitchell

Location: Rhoneymeade Sculpture Garden and Arboretum

Course Description: When beginning a pastel painting, one of the questions to be answered is, “What color and value lies underneath?” This is an important step in pastel painting the landscape that should be thoughtfully considered. Learning to develop a progression from the under-painting to layering one color over another—while considering the amount of pressure of a stick of pigment—is essential to discovering the true beauty...
