Welcome to the Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society
Formed in late 2004, our society represents artists in the central Pennsylvania region who are interested in the medium of soft pastel. Throughout the year, we organize exhibitions, offer member meetings to share work and ideas, organize plein air painting opportunities, and promote artistic development for our members.
Then and Now
Shirley Vogelsong 9x12 I feel I have gained a style since my first painting although it looks like I already had started to acquire it. Painting the second painting I felt more confident as I had the knowledge from years of painting on how to do it. The first painting was done on a smooth pastel paper and the second was done on sanded paper.

Laurie DeMatteo 12x9 I was a little surprised to see such similarities between the two when I went searching through my old sketches but I shouldn't be that surprised. Looking at Valley of Gold, the way that I have advanced is to have learned to use color as freely as I have line. My shapes are simpler and more unified. Neither one is a long study but a glimpse of an enjoyable afternoon, a place we may want to go back to.
