Pastel painting is one of my favorite ways to escape everyday life. Considering color, composition, light and shadow excludes worrying about the state of the world and current events. This spring I feel a little ray of hope as the pandemic subsides, at least for those of us in the US, but I still welcome the refuge that painting offers.

The pastel was done at my DuBois, Pa studio, right down the hall from where Julia, my granddaughter, and I staged the photo, in the dance studio....the ballet pictures on the wall are from other drawings I have done of other dancers over the years.

I finally found the time to revisit this photo and make it into something.

Bee Balm Botannical Plus

I was longing to do a landscape and rooting through old photos, I found this one-
more a still life than a landscape.
As I got into the drawing process, I noticed for the FIRST TIME! the small creature looking back at me.

The location is outside of Troutville, PA, at the location of my Elements series, but looking 180 degrees in the other direction.
